Duties Summary

Operates a radio-telephone communication system involving the receipt and transmission of messages; dispatches men, materials, and equipment in response to emergency, service, and trouble calls; performs a variety of clerical work involving the preparation of reports and the maintenance of records; and performs other related duties as required.

One (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Animal Control & Protection Agency in Puna.

The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

Examples of Duties

  • Receives and transmits messages by operating a radio-telephone communication system.
  • Maintains circuit discipline.
  • Answers emergency and trouble calls, determines location and nature of problem, and in the absence of operations supervisors dispatches personnel to handle emergency service and trouble calls.
  • Follows up trouble calls to see that services have been rendered.
  • Dispatches materials and equipment as requested.
  • Answers complaints and inquiries on construction services and maintenance activities.
  • Receives, records, and relays information regarding work operations.
  • Interprets departmental regulations and policies.
  • Prepares and processes applications for permits to excavate public (State and County) thoroughfares.
  • Prepares and reviews daily time sheets, work orders, and equipment reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintains time and leave records of operations personnel as directed.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions and temporary assignment reports for superior's signature.
  • Checks and processes invoices against receiving copies.
  • Maintains files and records of requisitions, letters, maps, equipment, contracts, forms, etc.
  • Prepares and types reports such as accident reports, work and cost estimates, work schedules and activities, status reports, and annual statistic reports.
  • Reviews, prepares, compiles, and enters data into computer.
  • Operates computer station.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment.
  • May supervise others.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Training and Experience:
A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to:

  • graduation from high school and
  • three (3) years of clerical experience,
  • one (1) of which shall have been in receiving and relaying service repair requests to field maintenance crews.

Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: office practices and procedures; filing methods and systems; punctuation, grammar, spelling, and word usage; use of standard office machines and equipment; departmental regulations, policies, and procedures; radio discipline and techniques; some data processing and computer station usage.

Ability to: read and interpret written material; keep records; make arithmetic computations; compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; operate standard office machines, equipment, and computers; supervise the work of others; deal tactfully and effectively with the public; operate radio-telephone equipment; make decisions under emergency conditions.

Physical Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
