This is an exciting time to join the Data & Insights team at The Economist Group. Under our newly appointed Chief Data Officer we are creating a centre of excellence spanning research, analytics and data science partnering with the whole group, including our core subscription business, our Economist Intelligence Unit, Client Solutions and Events business. Our purpose is to better understand and affect the drivers of our business through data analytics and research, with a focus on our users, B2C customers and B2B clients. In this role you will contribute key deliverables to an exciting BI tool migration project, while at the same time manage/enhance an existing suite of BI applications. You will translate requirements into BI solutions using established enterprise standards and best practices as well as enforcing these across the business. Our goal is to enable self-service BI across all verticals at the Economist

Accountabilities

How you will contribute:

  • Deliver on a key BI tool migration from Qlik to Tableau
  • Perform impact analysis of new business requirements on existing BI landscape
  • Work closely with Architects on the design of BI solutions
  • Document data flows and mapping rules between source systems and BI Solutions
  • Build and enforce data quality rules and standards within BI applications
  • Build pro-active tools and processes to monitor and flag data quality gaps and issues within BI applications
  • Help enforce and enhance BI standards used for ETL and data visualisation
  • Evaluate new tools and product updates to help improve effectiveness of existing BI solutions
  • Help build models to enable self-service BI
  • Provide end user training on new / enhanced BI applications

  • Measurable increase in the quality of data across BI applications
  • Ease of accessing business information and client behaviours / trends
  • Reduction in ad-hoc reporting / data requests through self-service BI
  • Optimised BI solutions delivered within time, quality and budget constraints

Experience, skills and professional attributes

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • A graduate degree (or equivalent)
  • Extensive experience building and enhancing Tableau applications
  • Experience with Qlik, Nprinting and QMC administration
  • Full software life cycle development exposure within BI space
  • Hands on experience working with SQL server and Snowflake
  • Proven experience in transforming tactical work streams into strategic solutions
  • Experience managing key business stakeholders
  • The ability to convey concepts, issues and risks to technical audience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail
  • High levels of energy, enthusiasm and passion to succeed in a dynamic environment

It would also be desirable if you have:

  • Previous experience delivering a BI tool migration

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Data Warehousing concepts
  • ETL tools and processes
  • Dimensional modelling
  • Data Visualisation techniques
