Position Summary:

Are you curious about how numbers can tell a story? UAF Bristol Bay Campus (BBC) is recruiting for a half-time position with two months time off annually. The BBC Data Analyst is responsible for identifying what populations are being served and how to track and document student data. Requires knowledge of databases and how to query, analyze, and report. University benefits, including tuition waivers.

Duties:

10Collaboration: Attend collaborative meetings internally and externally Mentor employees on best practices for data collection and reporting Coordinate efforts in institutional research with other CRCD rural campuses.Essential
20Communication: Contact representatives of the community, university, state, and/or federal government agencies for the purpose of research and identifying problems, analyzing needs, obtaining and coordinating delivery of services. May conduct research interviews, surveys, or focus groups Develop presentations to disseminate information internallyEssential
70Collecting and Analyzing Data: Formulate concise research questions, determine data collection methods and tools, gather data, run queries, conduct analyses, synthesize information, report findings, and make recommendations. Define, write, and analyze data extracts from UA database systems and other sources to perform analyses Track student data across different University platforms independently managing process automation to produce and distribute standard cyclical operational activity reports. Design data collection processes and develop databases and/or queries Data integrity - able to identify variables impacting data accuracy and quantify deviations Coordinate and collect statistics and compile them into reports on the program; prepare and submit narrative and statistical reports as requested by directorEssential

Office space is available in Dillingham, King Salmon, or Unalaska, but working remote within Alaska may be an option. This position is for 10-months a year which allows for two months of time off in addition to paid annual and sick leave. Tuition waivers are available for the employee, the employee’s spouse, and children who are under the age of 25

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Curiosity for how numeric data can tell a story
Ability to work independently
Knowledge of spreadsheet, database, and query development tools with ability to identify, analyze, and implement improvements.
Able to quickly learn and incorporate new tools and methodologies.
Compile/create reports as requested in a timely manner
Ability to explain complex concepts in simplified terms to fit various audiences
Strong problem-solving skills
Ensure the confidentiality and security of information

Preferred Experience & Education:
Knowledge of the Bristol Bay Campus (taken online classes or classes at UA)
Experience in educational services/ background
Bachelor's Degree in an analytical discipline such as business, math, statistics, or related area and 2 years database or equivalent technology experience
Proficient in Excel and SQL.
Knowledge of computer systems/databases

Required Experience & Education:

Associate’s degree and two years progressively responsible experience related to data interpretation and manipulation, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.



Salary Information:

This is a part-time, 10-month, non-exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 78, based on education and experience.
