Position Title: Demand Planning Manager
Reports To: Sr. Demand Planning Manager
Purpose of Role
This position owns the e! nd-to-end forecast management for a specific segment. This includes ownership of a collaborative, cross-functional, consensus process; maintaining statistical models; and measuring and actioning improvement plans for key demand planning metrics. This position drives forecast excellence in the form of increased forecast accuracy, which drives improvements in customer service; reduced finished good inventory levels; and reliable financial plans.
Principal Accountabilities
- Develop a rolling 18-month demand forecast. The forecasting process synthesizes multiple inputs including key assumptions regarding market activities of the brand and sales managers as well as competitors, sales force inputs, syndicated market data, and historical statistical models to arrive at a forecast of future demand.
- Lead cross-functional consensus forecasting process for respective brand-segments. This includes facilitating monthly markets & shares meetings and upd! ating Sales Directors of key forecast changes.
- Assume! the lead role in the all pre-Markets & Shares (inputs) meetings. Determine preliminary recommendation, incorporating all assumption inputs, along with follow-ups that will be needed to enable the final consensus forecast to be agreed.
- Collaborate and build/maintain relationships with business partners (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Finance, Production Planning) to gain insight on sales activities, market trends, and capacity status.
- Ownership of Manugistics statistical models at various product levels (e.g. brand, item) which includes analyzing shipment history trends; promotional inputs; and adjustment of necessary tuning parameters.
- Active member of Activity Management team on new product launches; providing volumetric analysis and forecast validation
- Monitor and report forecast accuracy for assigned brand families, implementing necessary action items to drive improvement.
- Identify forecast issues, trends and gaps to management for r! esolution or presentation in the S&OP process.
- Ensure that all activities approved by the business are included in the forecast. Keep adequate records of when forecasts were included and the value of the activity within the forecast.
- Provide any necessary input into weekly meetings and action any takeaways in terms of making adjustments to the demand forecast. Highlight any issues that may affect the total demand plan to management.
- Ensure that the agreed consensus forecast is passed accurately and at the appropriate level of detail to the production planning systems
Key Functional Competencies/Knowledge
- Fundamentals of demand forecasting principles
- Fundamental understanding of supply chain and how forecast impacts downstream business areas.
- Strong numerate, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Ability to evaluate whether a result is sensible or not. Able to translate word! problems into mathematical equations.
- Ability to synthesize a! nd filter inputs from multiple sources to key on the most important influences which will impact future demand.
- Ability to consider micro and macro; internal and external forces as it relates to forecast
- Strong command skills, encouraging direct and tough debates and taking unpopular stands if necessary.
- Organizationally agile, working through both formal and informal networks to get necessary demand inputs.
- An ability to managing through systems, designing practices, processes, and procedures which allow managing from distance.
- Successful negotiating skills, winning concessions in both direct/forceful and diplomatic approaches that do not damage relationships
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong presentation skills.
- Strong service mentality and willingness to perform responsibilities outside of the job description.
- Must have a h! igh degree of self-direction with the ability to constantly seek innovative ways to perform tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
- Must be proactive, high energy, detailed-oriented when appropriate, results-oriented, and willing to drive change
- Manages demand forecast for brand segment
- Authority to decide methodology for item and customer splits
- Improvements to demand forecasting methodology and systems
- Determines best allocation method of demand at the warehouse level, if applicable
- Zero direct reports. Successful individuals must possess a comfort level with both details and the big picture
- Must be able to act both independently and collaborate with a cross-functional demand team with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated very strong quantitative and analyti! cal experience
- Experience with JDA/Manugistics or other statis! tical forecasting software package preferred
- Must be highly-proficient in Excel.
- Experience with Microsoft Access preferred but not required
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint preferred.
- Min 3 years of business experience with exposure to Sales, Marketing, and/or Supply, preferably in the areas of demand planning or sales forecasting
- CPG experience preferred
- Bachelor degree required, preferably in engineering, statistics, economics, operations, business, or marketing
- MBA preferred.
