Ph.D. Organic chemistry with a strong synthetic background to work in the Chemistry Research Lab
Ph.D. Process Development Chemist in Cellulose Esters Technology's Process Chemistry Group
Fundamental knowledge about cellulose and related biopolymers
Some specialized training in wood science or polysaccharide modification
Ph.D. Organometallic Chemist for a position in the Chemistry or Catalysis Research Labs
Fundamental understanding of catalyst coordination, function and mechanism.
Specialized training in synthesis and characterization
Ph.D. Organic, Polymer or Physical Chemist for a position in the Polymers Research Lab
Fundamental knowledge monomer and polymerization types and synthesis conditions
Specialized training polymer catalysis and characterization
Job Description:
Research and invent new synthetic processes and enhance existing proces! ses
Work with development, manufacturing and business! personnel in process development and improvement projects for lab-scale work as well as for products manufactured in large-scale continuous and batch manufacturing plants.
Support a diverse set of businesses in a variety of project areas, including, acetyl chemistry, ketone chemistry, hydrogenation chemistry, oxidation chemistry, homogeneous catalysis and heterogeneous catalysis, supporting acetyl stream and downstream acetyl products.
Identify opportunities to increase yields, improve quality, or raise production rates of existing products, perform economic analyses to validate and prioritize opportunities, and initiate projects to implement recommended process improvements.
Develop new products, guiding them from initial proposals to manufacturing successes.
Provide technical assistance to solve unexpected manufacturing problems and serve as a resource to assist in the qualification of new raw material sources.
Provide informa! tion to business organizations with respect to advances in the key technologies employed in manufacturing and participate in the development of business organization technology strategies.
Job Responsibilities:
Conduct literature searches and laboratory experiments at the bench
Analyze results, solve complex problems, and document conclusions
Invent, improve, trouble-shoot and debottleneck processes
Participate in development team effort from inception to commercialization
Oversee operations of laboratory-scale and continuous reactors
Work effectively with other chemists and chemical engineers
Exhibit a high level of initiative
Apply statistical tools effectively (six sigma, design of experiments)
Direct work of technicians
Qualifications
The ideal candidate must have:
A PhD in Chemistry (Organic, Physical, Catalysis, Polymer or Inorganic) from an accredi! ted college or university
Experience in preparation of organic! compounds
Reaction mechanism and kinetics analysis experience
Experience in designing, evaluating, and interpreting complex reaction systems
Demonstrated creativity and a desire to solve challenging and complex problems
Strong project management and team leadership skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Fluency with computer software programs including Microsoft Suite
