The Vice President Pfizer Ventures/Equity role is in Worldwide Business Development/Business Innovation. As the leader, this person will have overall responsibility for all equity investments, their sourcing, diligence, negotiation, execution, and life cycle management, across the Pfizer Organization (sourcing/diligence for non-venture equity investments can be done by other groups, where appropriate). This includes direct management of Pfizer Ventures private company and fund investments, Business Development strategic equity investments in private and public companies and funds (including investments associated with internal initiatives like Ignite). All of these investments are aligned with Pfizer’s scientific and business strategies, with the goal of providing strategic relationships and financial benefit, in-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical business and the science that drives it will facilitate the work.
This individual will assume responsibility for the administration and management of the existing private strategic equity portfolios acquired in past business transactions. In addition, the administration, management and sale of Public equities will also come under the remit of this role. processing, managing, and tracking investment analytics for the entire Pfizer equity portfolio is also a key component of this role. To achieve these objectives this individual will have oversight of investing professionals, and associates while partnering with internal colleagues in business development and supporting areas such as legal, finance, treasury.
Success is determined by the strategic value of the investments to Pfizer’s future pipeline, as well as financial return to the corporation. Equity investing is a tool used to create close relationships with early-stage companies (venture) and access to clinical assets at later stages through business development transactions, while building a portfolio that can also provide financial return and pay for the operations of department.
This leader will need to leverage extensive knowledge gained from executing of all forms of equity transactions as well as extensive external relationships in pharma, biotech, investing and banking communities with the goal of creating/supporting strong companies to partner with Pfizer and provide financial return.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the execution and lifecycle of all equity transactions at Pfizer
  • Oversee Pfizer Ventures business from lead identification through building strategic relationships and planning for financial exits
  • Oversee the execution of business development equity transactions
  • Manage the life cycle of strategic equity portfolio of public and private companies for value.
  • Meet all internal and external reporting requirements
  • Manage deal governance processes ensuring compliance with corporate procedures.
  • Manage and track equity investments over time, providing data for financial reporting, and presentations.
  • Build diverse collaborative relationships across Pfizer to generate alignment around investments and facilitate collaboration between portfolio companies and Pfizer.
  • Cultivate diverse relationships external to Pfizer within the Biotech ecosystem.
  • Knowledgably represent Pfizer in discussions external audiences and routinely present and represent Pfizer and Pfizer Ventures at external meeting/conferences and forums.
  • Manage PV investments as a venture capitalist, through board participation, and management recruitment and drive to successful financial exits (IPO/M&A).
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional degree required – PhD, MD, JD, MBA
  • Significant understanding of the biopharmaceutical model with at least ten years biopharmaceutical company work experience.
  • At least 15 years equity experience through venture capital, banking and business development, banking
  • 5-10 years' experience in equity capital markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with Scientific and business leaders inside and outside the organization
  • Demonstrated the ability to manage a team of peers across corporate functions
  • Thrives in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with C-Suite level leaders.
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft based business software systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experienced in financial management and analysis
  • Strong communication skills demonstrated in both business/scientific and casual environments
  • Influencing skills to influence without line management
  • Experience in working closely with, advising and presenting to senior leaders on collaborations, business development or strategy
  • Strong negotiation capabilities: ability to persuade/ influence and effectively gain agreement/consensus

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to travel independently.
  • Ability to review and understand complex scientific, drug development and business proposals.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and complex data analysis.
  • Ability to review and understand complex legal documents.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to travel globally 25% or more of the time
  • Non-traditional work hours required on an as needed basis –early mornings, nights, weekends and during vacation time.
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $271,400.00 to $430,900.00. In addition, this position offers an annual bonus with a target of 45.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. Benefits offered include a retirement savings plan, paid vacation, holiday and personal days, paid caregiver/parental and medical leave, and health benefits to include medical, prescription drug, dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Pfizer compensation structures and benefit packages are aligned locally, the US Salary range provided does not apply to the Tampa, FL or any EXUS locations.
