Job Summary The Director of Youth Ministries will provide vision and direction in fostering the spiritual development of our young people by utilizing appropriate resources and volunteers. In doing so, he/she will be or will seek to be well versed in the Episcopal tradition and will lead through example, while being ope! n to new and diverse ideas and practices of faith. By blending! a balance of spiritual formation, Bible study and fun, he/she will actively engage the youth in the life of the parish and the parish in the life of the youth.

Essential Functions • In consultation with the Rector and the Youth Council, develop programs of Christian formation appropriate for the youth of the parish that will nurture their faith, help them to apply faith to their lives and foster their commitment to the church. • Ensure that the youth programming fulfills all Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee Safe Church guidelines. • Recruit (and train as needed) adult members of the parish to act as leaders, advisors, and/or coordinators of youth programs and to provide adult supervision and leadership at youth events. • Work collectively with other St. Elizabeth’s staff and volunteers to assure coordination of youth programs with other activities of the parish. • Cultivate the practice of regular church attendance among youth. • Plan, schedule, c! oordinate, and execute youth activities each week on Sundays, and also on Wednesday evenings during the school year. • Plan and organize summer mission trips, pilgrimages, and other fun activities, and necessary fundraising activities • Recruit and mentor adult participants and/or chaperones for trips and/or activities. • Network with other youth groups/directors in the diocese and promote youth participation in diocesan events. • Perform other special duties as assigned by the Rector.

Other Responsibilities • Create and submit a yearly budget to the Treasurer and the Rector. Submit all receipts and financial reports to the Treasurer weekly. • Attend staff meetings and submit written reports of all youth activities and attendance as directed by the Rector. • Facilitate and maintain excellent and timely communications with youth, parents, and volunteers to ensure awareness of activities and to inform and generate interest with the parish at large, usin! g appropriate communication forms outlined in the St. Elizabeth’s Per! sonnel Handbook. • Use social media as defined by the St. Elizabeth’s Personnel Handbook. Minimum Qualifications and Expectations • Possess a deep, mature and vital Christian faith. • Successfully complete a comprehensive background check; passing this check is mandatory for employment/continued employment • Fulfill all requirements of the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee for training and certification in avoiding sexual harassment and abuse, including their current program “Safeguarding God’s Children.” • Hold a valid driver’s license. • St Elizabeth's Episcopal Church will not tolerate the use of illegal drugs or the abuse of alcohol or prescription drugs. If there is a suspicion of illegal drug use, abuse of alcohol, or abuse of prescription drugs, we reserve the right to require the employee to submit to a drug test. A positive test will be ground for immediate dismissal. Refusing to submit to a drug test will be grounds for dismissal.

! Education College degree preferred but not required.

Experience • Experience working with young people, preferably in a church or religious setting. • The ability to establish a good rapport and working relationship with young people aged 11-18. • The ability to communicate effectively with parents, parishioners, and staff.

Physical Requirements • Able to move freely and participate in light-to-moderate physical activities. • Able to supervise youth and adult volunteers through speaking, hearing, and seeing. • Able to speak and make presentations in small and large groups.
