Your Challenge:
As a Design Engineer you will be challenge with leveraging your knowledge in power electrics to design emergency lighting pr! oducts.

Your Responsibilities:
Design and develop software & firmware for new products; such as emergency lighting ballasts, backup ballasts or drivers for fluorescent lamps, HID lamps, and LEDs, and other new products relating to lighting electronics.

Design & Develop software & firmware for network controls products, digital controls, and embedded micro-controllers for network communications at all levels within the communications chain.

Includes connectivity SW for the communications aspect as well as user-interface SW, embedded SW and firmware.

Design and develop the electronic circuitry associated with embedded micro-controllers, data acquisition, transfer of data, communications, etc.

Design and develop electronic circuit modules, including guiding the PCB design, enclosures, packaging, and/or material related processes that meet specified cost, time, quality, and performance parameters.

Work effectively! in a disciplined engineering environment following industrial! design & development controls specified. This includes rigorous requirements management related, but not limited to: meeting development deliverables for schedule, cost, performance, quality, etc., product design, source code management, SW library management, SW security management, SW organization management, SW archive management, and module and integration testing. The candidate will be able to communicate effectively and work well with teams from other disciplines such as sales & marketing, production, customer support, customer applications, quality assurance, and promotions teams.

Work also includes technical publications and documentation.

Perform troubleshooting, testing, devising test setups and procedures, documentation, and firmware development.

Utilize project scheduling software tools for certain product development phases

Determined the network architecture which can incorporate a Philips Emergency Lighting Device into a n! etworked lighting controls environment.

Conduct feasibility studies, demonstration projects, etc.

Successfully develop, SW/firmware that can achieve the DALI communication techniques - i.e. DALI Transmit and Receive protocol, as well as other communications protocols as determined.

Develop a working knowledge of other protocols and communications standards related to building network controls to facilitate the successful interoperability with network controllers, bridges, etc.

Work with other Philips development sites to align well with the lighting network controls protocols for successful end-user experience.

Work includes determining & successfully implementing internal & external standards and requirements.

Drive by design and development the end-user experience of Philips Sense & Simplicity; i.e. products that are easy to install, easy to use, reliable, and problem-free.

Design & develop all aspects of prod! ucts (SW, firmware, hardware, etc.) for successful systems experience; ! i.e. interoperability, compatibility, adherence to applicable standards and requirements.

Determine, devise, and conduct appropriate system-level testing for proof-of-design and proof-of-performance.

Design, coordinate, and hold design reviews, providing a complete Bill-of-Materials, drawings, PCB design documentation, specifications, test data results, and other necessary documentation and information.

Prepare completed working prototype samples, including samples for the UL Client Test Data program, and production.

Develop and execute reliability studies, which includes successful on-site or off-site installations and conduct reliability tests and analysis for new or major redesigned products.

Write, document, and provide special manufacturing guidelines and test specifications for new products, materials, or processes.

Determine the proper materials that are to be used in each product and participate in test programs ! for new materials.

Specify and monitor tests for product compliance with the applicable standards.

Evaluate product or material performance as necessary to support the Quality, Manufacturing, and Field Service functions.

Issue complete and concise reports regarding the performance of new or improved products, as well as competing products.

Utilize analytical modeling tools, when applicable, to insure initial design can meet target specifications.

Your Team:
The Collierville, TN facility designs and develops emergency lighting ballasts, backup ballasts or drivers for fluorescent lamps, HID lamps, and LEDs, and other new products relating to lighting electronics, including enclosures, packaging, and/or related equipment. Application of power electronics, switch-mode power supply circuit design, and electronics for lighting, includes development of software for network controls, digital controls, and embedded micro-contro! llers for network communications at all levels within the communication! s chain. Perform feasibility studies for new technologies and new product ideas. Perform all project management duties during product development from conception to initial production. Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.

What We Are Looking For

The Ideal candidate for Design Engineer role must be able to design and develop emergency lighting ballasts, backup ballasts or drivers for fluorescent lamps, HID lamps, and LEDs, as well as other new products relating to lighting electronics, including enclosures, packaging, and/or related equipment.

Application of power electronics, switch-mode power supply circuit design, and electronics for lighting, includes development of software for network controls, digital controls, and embedded micro-controllers for network communications at all levels within the communications chain.

You will perform feasibility studies for new technolo! gies and new product ideas and need to feel comfortable performing project management duties during product development from conception to initial production.

Qualifications:
BSEE or Bachelors degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline or suitable previous experience in a similar or related function.

2-6 years of experience when coupled with an engineering degree.

Must have power electronics design experience specifically the design of power supply switch modes.

Ability to conduct research, and quickly learn and adapt new technologies toward the design of new electronic products.

Skilled at hands-on bench-top design of electronics for lighting or related fields.

Strong Electrical Engineering and technical skills with detailed knowledge in an appropriate discipline.

Ability to interact with and contribute to cross-functional teams.

Ability to use personal computers, especially using sprea! dsheets and word processing software.

Analytical and problem s! olving skills and good organizational and communication skills.

Ability to manage a project and balance innovation and creativity with mindful regard to a project schedule.

Knowledge of UL standards and compliance standards such as FCC EMI.

Knowledge of embedded microcontroller products.

Ability to design HW & SW using embedded microcontrollers is a plus.
