Responsible for the accurate and timely entry of patient demographic and service information into the billing system(s) to ensure the submission of clean claims and invoices in accordance with department protocols and payer/contract filing time frames.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Receive documentation of services from clinical associates and review completeness.
Follow up as necessary with clinical associates to obtain missing or incomplete information and to effectively perform oneâs job.
Escalate issues or discrepancies in information that results in the delay of the charge entry or errors in the system.
Enter all patient demographic and encounter information into the billing system.
Generate letters to patients introducing the practice and involvement of practice during surgical procedure.
Communicate with the surgeon offices or hospital to obtain applicable case diagnoses.
Request copies of operative reports from hospitals or surgery centers when necessary.
Enter all service item charges into the billing system(s).
Scan all service documentation and upload into the billing system/image control system (ICS).
File/attach scanned documents to the encounter record within the billing system.
Files paper copies according to department procedures.
Submit claims and invoices for services to the appropriate payer (third party or hospital).
Follow up on unpaid claims and invoices, resubmitting and/or filing appeals as necessary and appropriate.
Request hospital operative reports in support of claim level appeals.
Performs other duties and work on special projects as necessary to support the operations of the Revenue Management â" Third Party Billing.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School diploma/GED.
Experience in medical billing and knowledge of Medical Terminology, Medicare and Medicaid regulations, ICD-9 and CPT codes.
Three (3) â" five (5) years experience in the field of healthcare reimbursement required.
