Summary:
This position is for a Packaging Systems Engineer for the Memphis Plant. The Packaging Engineer’s primary function is to

ensure that the Memphis plant’s packaging systems are fully operational and reliable as required to support the packaging of finished product while adhering to schedule, rate of production and quality specifications while maintaining a safe work environment for all employees and for our products. In this function, the Packaging Engineer will be working directly with

other Engineers, Quality Assurance, Main! tenance, OEM’s, and Contractors.

Major Duties/Re! sponsibilities:
Packaging Systems Oversight: Provide leadership & oversight for all aspects of the packaging systems, including safety, for the Memphis plant. Work with the maintenance department to ensure that the correct asset reliability plans are in place for the packaging equipment in the various business units. Work with the production departments to ensure that Process Operating Guides are accurate and up to date.

Packaging Systems Optimization: Provide strong technical leadership and support to Plant Operational and Maintenance staff in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and safely optimizing existing packaging systems.

Capital Project Management: Manage capital projects for packaging improvement efforts at the Memphis plant. Responsible for developing manufacturing feasibility assessments, capital cost estimates, packaging system design, selecting equipment, preparing equipment and construction bid specifications, e! valuating bids, overseeing installation and start-up of packaging equipment and systems, troubleshooting, and training of line supervisors, operators and maintenance personnel.

Packaging Documentation: Ensure that plant schematics and equipment diagrams are accurate and up to date.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:

Appropriate combination of knowledge and experience in design of packaging systems for the food industry including: 1) an understanding of common packaging materials used in the food packaging industry 2) high speed flow wrapping of various food products, which must include demonstrated knowledge of product alignment and distribution, wrapper feeding, and application of wrappers across a wide range of product types 3) secondary packaging such as carton and tray loading, statistical scales and VFFS (bagging) equipment, and etc... 4) Tertiary packaging including ! case packaging and palletizing 5) A thorough knowledge of robotics used! in the food industry 6) A strong understanding of industrial power distribution and controls platforms as it relates to packaging systems.

The incumbent must have demonstrated experience with machine and equipment design, and a working knowledge of Computer Aided Design software.

Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to successfully manage small to mid-sized capital projects, including cost, schedule, and resources (internal and contractors), as well as leading multi-functional teams in project execution.

Incumbent should possess the appropriate combinations of knowledge and experience in the design, application, and maintenance of: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC's); electrical and electronic industrial instrumentation; automation and process control; industrial computer systems; motor control; distributed control systems; and other automation, electrical power, computer, and control technologies.

Incumbent must have demonstrated p! roficiencies in the food or pharmaceutical industry that is relative to Hershey manufacturing processes, construction practices, standards and codes that support manufacturing and provide a competitive business advantage.

The incumbent must be a hands-on problem solver, focusing on detailed problem resolution and documentation.

Incumbent must possess the ability to understand and apply sound engineering solutions keeping in mind costs, schedules and operational performance.

Incumbent must exhibit sound judgment, understanding and proficiency in the development of engineering solutions and have the ability to effectively evaluate, communicate and build consensus cross-functionality associated with recommendations on increasingly complex and fast paced projects.

The successful Incumbent must provide technical analyses, develop alternatives (cost estimates, feasibility, specifications, and interpretation of requirements) and prepare recommen! dations, if required.

Incumbent must demonstrate the appropria! te negotiating and interpersonal skills to process projects and other job related duties from inception to completion. Vendor negotiation, OEM relationships and contractual agreements

Incumbent must provide the appropriate level of training for manufacturing personnel including operators, supervisors, QA and maintenance on the key operating parameters of packaging equipment

The Incumbent must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

The Incumbent must possess strong PC skills.

The Incumbent must possess ability and willingness to work in a team environment, work with limited supervision, and be capable of making critical decisions under pressure and with limited information

The Incumbent must possess strong leadership, decision making, and interpersonal skills.

Incumbent must possess the demonstrated potential to accept new and challenging work assignments

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Mecatronics) or BS-- Engineering Technology and or

relative engineering experience within The Hershey Company

Experience: -- 5 - 7 years in the field of Packaging Engineering

--Minimum 3 years of experience in the Confectionery, Food, Consumer Goods and/or Pharmaceutical industry is preferred.

--Experience in leading the Packaging Engineering portion of multiple projects is required.

--Experience with PFD’s, P&ID’s, GMP’s, packaging estimating, and packaging design for the food industry are required.

--Intermediate Project Management Skills (PMP Credential Preferred)
