Job Title: Data Analyst

Reports To: Sr. Director of IT

Office Location: Pleasant Hill, CA

FLSA: Hourly, full-time, Non-Exempt - benefits eligible

Position Summary:

As the organization’s first Data Analyst, this person will be responsible for creating a culture of shared and useful data across the organization.

Special Olympics Northern California needs include the gathering, analyzing, aggregating, and reporting on data across the entire CRM Environment. Senior leadership will rely on this position to extract meaningful data-driven insights and present findings to them for use in helping solve key business problems.

The position will be tasked with working with staff across multiple departments to create and maintain reporting and dashboards within the organization’s systems including Salesforce,

Blackbaud Financial Edge, Microsoft O365, Google Sheets, UpMetrics, and peer-to-peer fundraising tools.

This position must be able to use the organization’s existing tools and systems to help advance us toward a data-centric organization.

Responsibilities/ Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for leading the analysis (including collection and cleaning) of data across the Special Olympics Northern CA data landscape.
  • Maintaining data systems and databases; this includes identifying and fixing errors and other data-related issues.
  • Mining data from primary and secondary sources, then reorganizing said data in a format that can be easily understood.
  • Managing and analyzing qualitative and quantitative metrics to measure progress across key strategic areas.
  • Work in conjunction with the Sr. Director of IT and a Salesforce database manager to create appropriate scope and procedures for data capture in all areas of the organization.
  • Work in conjunction with IT Sr. Director to ensure continued data quality.
  • Helping staff interpret data with attention to trends and patterns that may be valuable for future organizational efforts.
  • Developing reports for leadership that effectively communicates trends, patterns, and predictions.
  • Collaborating with department heads to identify opportunities for improvement, recommend modifications, and develop guidelines for data governance.
  • Help managers to understand and craft metrics, track approaches, and answer their questions.
  • Occasionally presenting to management the “state of data” in the organization.
  • Creating a documentation and reporting structure for the organization.
  • Other needs as identified.

Qualifications, Skills & Experiences:

  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Math or Business
  • At least three years’ experience in an equivalent position
  • Technical skills include:

o Strong experience with Salesforce (preferably NPSP) and a must in Report/Dashboard development and data hygiene

o SQL (SaaS Azure environment)

o Spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel, SharePoint, and Power BI

o Experience with the Google Docs environment

o Data visualization software; UpMetrics is a plus o Mathematical and statistical skills.

  • Experience working with a non-profit organization
  • Project Management Experience
  • Provide end-user training and orientation on systems.
  • Above average communications skills, both oral and written
  • Comfortable with learning and using new software programs.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to manage one’s time effectively – to prioritize and to complete diverse assignments concurrently when working on a deadline.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Flexibility - managing competing demands and adapting to changes in the work environment.
