Position Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has the privilege and responsibility of being the primary point of contact for students seeking admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as undergraduates. In its role evaluating first-year and transfer students, the office works tirelessly to identify, recruit, admit, and welcome students who will positively contribute to our campus, state, and nation. The office also supports students by providing academic counseling, sponsors hundreds of events encouraging students to further their education, and works to enhance the image of the University locally and nationally. Members of the office understand that their work is intensely public and is closely followed by students and their families; secondary-school teachers and administrators; University faculty and staff; lawmakers; and media.

Position Summary
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a hard-working, caring and collaborative professional to serve as a Senior Assistant Director in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This admissions officer will counsel students, parents, and counselors about admission to Carolina; collaborate with others to develop and implement innovative methods of recruiting, evaluating, and enrolling a talented and diverse student body that enables Carolina to achieve its mission; read applications and serve as a voting member of the admissions committee; and perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Four to six weeks of travel will be required, as will work beyond the traditional 40-hour week. The successful candidate will demonstrate outstanding ability to lead and collaborate with others; think critically and strategically; identify, analyze, and solve problems; care for students, their family members, and other constituents; and speak and write clearly and persuasively.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
At least 3 years of experience in admissions, recruitment, student aid, education, or a related field are required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Proficiency in a second language, especially Spanish or Mandarin, is preferred.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
